Tucked behind the wholesale seafood shop,
The tall-grassed muddy bank
Of the San Sebastian River,
The derelict shrimp boat dragged onto shore,
And the heron fishing in the early morning light,
Reveal to me intrinsic splendor somehow.

Building cloud cover above
And rumored rip current below
Infect each new resolution
With nebulous-consequence unease

Squirrel drinks deeply,
Crusty baguette chunk consumed –
Pleasure straightforward

Squirrel eyeing me on deck,
Shifts gaze to baguette chunks below –
Matter of great import

Sailing skiffs, resting now too far aground,
Rely on the promise of an incoming tide,
While water joins sky in flushed expectation
Of sun’s regal rise o’er the eastern dunes.

Birdbath freshly filled Winged-guest sips in mind -- Tabled-window watching

Mother milkweed Forfeits its leaves To spring's first monarch In waiting

My wife has no fear For God is with her always - Serene surety

The buildings from across the square Are echoed in the window’s panes. They glisten in a cordial way And, were I able, I’d consider Slipping through this looking glass To window shop and maybe stay.
